How does Norfolk County Council know that cost of raising A1101 Welney Wash road is prohibitive?

WITH regard to your article on Welney Wash (January 25).

If Mr Rands of Norfolk County Council has not looked at the cost of raising a causeway recently, how does he know that the cost is likely to be prohibitive?

In my experience of building similar structures in East Africa, a causeway built of low grade granular material protected with stone, together with a series of Armco-type culverts to allow the flood water to flow freely, would solve the problem.

I realise that the cost of the structure has to be balanced against the cost and inconvenience of having to make considerable detours.

For a main road to be out of use for more than 10 per cent of the year in this day and age is not acceptable.
