Obvious that March Transport Strategy doesn’t cater for 6,000 extra vehicles planned in Core Strategy

AFTER attending Cambridgeshire County Council’s public exhibition last week, regarding its transport proposals for the town over the next 20 years.
It is obvious that it is not catering for the extra 6,000 vehicles that will be using the town centre as a result of Fenland District Council’s proposal for an additional 4,200 homes.
It is no good producing draft schemes for the Broad Street area, until they overcome the major issue of so much more traffic coming into the town centre.
It is like putting the cart before the horse, which is exactly what both the district and county councils have done over the whole planning for the town.
Surely, a more logical way would be to examine the traffic issues first and then plan for housing growth according to what the highway network can accommodate and what improvements are needed for future housing growth.
What we have now is a plan for an extra 4,200 homes and no idea how the local highway network will cope with an additional 6,000 vehicles on it!
Residents can still object to this crazy plan by sending in their objections to Fenland District Council before April 10, after which the Secretary of State will make the final decision.
