March Lions Club is inviting people to take part in a sponsored pull of the vintage fire engine Vivien at Wisbech Fire Station at noon on Saturday, March 24.

Current president Trevor Stockbridge said he decided to organise the event after hearing that 37,000 people per year die from the deadly illness.

“When I did a bit more research and realised that Testicular Cancer Research doesn’t actually get any Government funding and has to fundraise to maintain its research programme, I thought: ‘Let’s raise as much money as possible to give them help,’” he said.

Mr Stockbridge said there was not currently a fundraising target but that he was keen they raise as much as possible for this “very important, yet often forgotten, research”.

Teams will be encouraged to compete to pull the engine along the fire station’s approach road in the fastest time.

Anyone interested in taking part should email Derek Rutter at derek@rutter.force9.co.uk for a sponsorship form.
