58 drivers fined in one day as Cambridgeshire Police launches crackdown on motorists who don’t wear seatbelts

MOTORISTS who risk their lives and the lives of their passengers by failing to wear a seatbelt are the target of a month-long campaign.
Throughout March Cambridgeshire Police officers will be doing stop checks to catch those motorists failing to wear a seatbelt.
Yesterday alone, 58 drivers were fined after they were caught not wearing their seatbelts.
PC Stephen Gedny, casualty reduction officer, said: “A seatbelt is a life-saving piece of equipment and it astonishes me that there are still people out there who fail to buckle up.
“Putting your seatbelt on should be part of your routine before even starting your vehicle and drivers should be responsible for ensuring all passengers wear theirs.”
Last year more than 2700 people received a £60 fine for not wearing a seatbelt.
