All age charity run at Wisbech attracts competitors and raises £2,000 for cancer charity

An all-age charity run at Wisbech Grammar School, which attracted more than 200 competitors, has raised £2000 for Cancer Research UK.

A total of 203 pupils, staff, parents and friends entered the ‘Race at your place’ at the school.

Year 11 pupil Jacob Kelman (16), a member of the school’s jogging club, crossed the line first in 19 minutes 23 seconds.

Ex-student Sophie Culshaw triumphed in the ladies in a time of 21 minutes 40 seconds and clinching fifth place overall.

The first teacher, Alexander Laybourne, took fourth place with a time of 21 minutes 39 seconds.

The five-kilometre race was started by the family of Angela Notley, a receptionist at the preparatory school, Magdalene House, who passed away in December, and the competitors and spectators were able to enjoy a barbecue and entertainment from the school’s steel band.

Teacher Mr Geoff Howes, who organized the event with charities coordinator Miss Jan Wildman, said: “We had set a target of 200 competitors and we were delighted with the success of the event and the money raised.

“The band played all through the evening to give the race a fantastic atmosphere.”
