A COUNCILLOR’S son arrested as part of a day of action into metal thefts has been cleared of any wrong doing.

Councillor David Connor owns the Fenland Breakers yard in Commercial Road, March, which was raided by Cambs Police ten days before Christmas.

His son Andrew, 32, who manages the yard was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen property and bailed to return to police today.

But Cllr Connor revealed today that his son had been told there was no case to answer and he had been cleared of any suspicion of wrong doing.

“It’s been shown there is absolutely no case whatsoever for him to answer,” said Cllr Connor who represents Doddington on Fenland District Council.

The police raid on Cllr Connor’s yard came as part of a day of action to tackle thefts of metal: at the centre of the allegations was the discovering of nine BT drain covers on a pallet inside their scrap yard.

Cllr Connor: “We want people to know that there was never any truth in these allegations and now police have confirmed that is so.”

A police spokesman confirmed Mr Connor’s bail had been cancelled.
