Archant

The A142 at Ely station was again closed last night as rescuers had to free a lorry trapped under the bridge.

The road was closed for sometime – and diversions put in place- while the vehicle was removed.

Police warned motorists they faced “severe delays” on Bridge Road after the lorry became wedged under the bridge.

Queues built up on both approach roads.

  • As usual, van and lorry drivers don't bother to look at the signs, or perhaps they can't read them...

  • The bridge is not a problem, how can it be? Its the idiots trying to drive a 10ft lorry under a 9ft bridge. Cant the drivers read?

  • This bridge has been a major problem for as long as I can remember - and that is a very long while. Roll on the Ely Southern By-pass.

Britain keeps its promises, particularly to those most in need. For 10 years, our commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of our national income on aid has been testament to that, and featured in all the major political party manifestos running up to the last general election.
