The couple had previously been joint Vicars, but now Wendy is the sole Vicar, and James will support her as associate priest at St Peter and St Paul’s Church while he works part time at the hospital.

James said: “Going into hospitals has always been part of my ministry. It just seemed a natural route to go down to become a chaplain, although I will continue to assist my wife in her role as vicar.”

The addition of Rev Thomson to the hospital chaplaincy team brings it up to a full complement of four chaplains. The other chaplains are Reverends Gail Kerry, Mark Jones and Peter Chapman.

Rev Thomson was licensed in his new role at a special service held in the Sacred Space at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, conducted by the Bishop of King’s Lynn, the Rt Rev Jonathan Meyrick.
