Citizens Advice Bureau closes its drop in service in March

The Citizens Advice Bureau has closed its drop in service in March library after being a regular feature in town for years.
Debbie Goddard of Churches Together in March said: “I think it took a lot of people by surprise.
“In a town the size of March there should be provision for people with immediate needs.
“We had someone at Foodbank who was asking for money.
“Of course we can’t give money only food and a few household things, but we also couldn’t point him to any organisation that could help him. “CAB had a unique function in the community and now the nearest is Wisbech.
“I feel the same about the Job Centre that closed about five years ago.”
CAB provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.
Batul Dungarwalla, CEO of Citizens Advice Rural Cambs, said: “A reduction in our funding means we have recently had to stop running our weekly drop-in at March Library.
“Our outreach service offering financial skills and money help continues to run there every week on a Monday between 9.30am and noon and a debt adviser is also on hand to help once a week.
“A drop-in service remains available at our Ely office from 9.15am to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and at the Wisbech office from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Thursday where a follow-up appointment will be arranged if required.
“Anyone needing advice can also call the AdviceLine on 0344 245 1292 from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, or visit our website www.citizensadviceruralcambs.org.uk or www.citizensadvice.org.uk “
“We’d like to thank Fenland District Council for their continued support and are working together to ensure people are able to access the advice services they need.”
• Churches Together in March teamed up with Ely Foodbank, who come under the Trussell Trust, and opened a Foodbank in March in November 2013.
The Foodbank currently distributes food to local people in crisis on Tuesdays (1 to 2.30pm) from Centenary Baptist Church on High Street opposite Cassano’s restaurant. Clients need to obtain a voucher before collecting food.”
