Police said the former route of the A47 through Thorney near Peterborough is likely to remain closed until the morning.

The fire broke out earlier and fire crews from across the region were called to tackle the blaze.

A police spokesman said: “The carriageway has been closed between Eye and the B1167 New Cut/Wisbech Road at Thorney.”

Emergency services insisted the by pass would remain open and the X1 bus service between Kings Lynn and Peterborough remains operational.
