Staff and students at Chatteris Cromwell Community College are celebrating the second best set of GCSE results the college has ever achieved.

Sixty-two per cent of students, who completed their studies at Cromwell achieved five A* to C including English and Maths; a rise of five per cent over the 2013 result.

For the fifth successive year every student has left Cromwell with at least one GCSE pass and 99% achieved five GCSE passes.

Retiring principal Jed Roberts said: “These results should be seen against a backdrop of Government interference in what was a perfectly legitimate assessment regime midway through the GCSE course. Therefore the achievement of our students this year is very good indeed.

“We fully expect the headline figure to be above the national average and the vast majority of the subjects taught at Cromwell, including Maths and English to also sit above national average figures this year.

“Our congratulations go to all of our students who have been so motivated this year and a particular well done goes to Ben Millson, Isaac Smy, Danielle Buttriss and Tapiwa Mandebvu, who all achieved at least 10 A* or A grades.

“This year’s GCSE results combined with an excellent set of AS results last week demonstrate that a true comprehensive school can uphold its values and remain successful. Cromwell is a successful school and I am proud to have been its Principal for the last ten years. I am absolutely confident that the new Principal; Mrs Horn, who has helped shape and drive our success so far will continue the upward trend. Well done to all concerned, thank you to all the parents who have supported me over the past five years and best wishes for the future.”
