Pupils at Cromwell Community College, Chatteris, have been collecting money and food for the Chatteris Foodbank.

They were inspired to help after being told in an assembly about how the foodbank helps people in crisis.

Year 8 pupils, assisted by the sixth form Pupil Voice team, have been bringing donations to the school and leaving them under the Christmas tree.

The college’s campaign is supported by their business class partners MM(UK), who have held their own collection and added it to the items donated by pupils.

A presentation was made in front of the school Christmas Tree by sixth form pupil Tom Wayman to Rod Doulton, of Chatteris Foodbank.

Mr Doulton said: “I would like to thank the pupils for their generosity.

“Their donations would make a huge difference to families in Chatteris at Christmas time.”

Chatteris Food Bank has a collection point in the town’s parish church.

Food is given out to Chatteris residents through a voucher system.

Vouchers, which provide three days emergency food, are available at the Children’s Centre, schools, social services, George Claire Surgery and the Vicarage.

The foodbank is looking for donations of UHT milk, rice pudding, sugar, tinned meat, fish and vegetables, soup, biscuits, pasta, rice, cereals, tea bags, coffee, soap, nappies and shampoo.

If you would like to help with their monthly food collections at The Co-operative for a few hours on a Saturday, or assist with advertising, leafleting and administration, call 07354 306678.
