TWO stalwarts of the March and District Amateur Operatic Society have been commended for more than 50 years of service between them.

Enid Dickinson and Olga Mitcham were awarded with MADAOS’ Iona Morton Trophy to commend them for their exceptional service to the society.

Mrs Dickinson, 69, of Upwell Road, March, first got involved in the organisation in 1975 and has since then been involved in every level of the society’s productions.

As well as being on stage herself she has done stints backstage and even doing haircuts and window dressings but is also well known for her time as MADAOS publicity officer.

Ms Mitcham has helped with teas and coffees since joining during the 1990s.

Francis Pepper, president of the society, said: “They have been stalwarts of the society who have always been on time and keen to help out.

“The Iona Morton Trophy is awarded tosomeone who has given good service to the society, so is quite an honour for them to get.”

Mrs Dickinson said: “I’ve always enjoyed it and enjoyed being part of the society.

“In several towns musical societies are closing down. I don’t want to see MADAOS end.”
