Independent auditors have given Fenland District Council a clean bill of health in their assessment of the council’s accounts.

The council has been praised for offering good value for money in the 2016/17 financial year and having measures in place to manage its finances.

The annual audit letter was presented to the council’s corporate governance committee meeting on December 4.

Reporting an “unqualified value for money conclusion”, the letter said that the council has made “proper arrangements to secure economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources”.

The auditors also said the council has an appropriate plan in place to ensure the robustness of its financial plan over the next four years.

Councillor Mark Buckton, chairman of the corporate governance committee, said: “One of our key council priorities is to make sure our resources are well managed and reflect the priorities of our residents, so it is heartening to read these reports by external auditors and receive confirmation that management of the council finances is working well.”
