Fenland Brownies learn about bushcraft during Easter adventure
11:10 01 May 2014
Twenty girl guides explored woodland, took part in an Easter egg hunt and tried their hand at bushcraft during a two day adventure.
The girls, from the 2nd Doddington and 4th March Brownie groups, stayed at the Jarman Centre, Girlguiding Cambridgeshire East’s residential centre, near Newmarket.
They took part in giant outdoor art, learnt bushcraft skills including fire lighting and made hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
The girls themselves planned the adventure and chose the activities, some of which will help them complete the Big Brownie Birthday Challenge badge.
Lily, aged 8, said “It was a fantastic weekend with my Brownie friends, I can’t wait to go away again with the Brownies.”
Doddington Brownies leader, Becki Fisher, said: “This was my first Brownie holiday and I really enjoyed learning to make fire with the girls in a safe environment. The Jarman Centre is a fantastic venue for residential adventures.”
