GALLERY: Chefs hog the limelight as they sizzle 900 rashers for the bacon buttie festival

An event has hogged the fund raising limelight by bringing in a meaty total of more than £1,100 as the barbecue sizzled for a bacon buttie festival.
The smell of freshly sizzled bacon wafted from St Peter’s Church in March church as chefs cooked up around 900 rashers and sold around 300 rolls in various flavours.

The festival, which is back for the third year running, has many varieties of Britain’s favourite sandwich.
Returning for a second year was the unexpectedly favourite - the Elvis buttie - a bacon sandwich with crispy bacon rashers laid on top of peanut butter and topped with miniature marshmallows.
Also on the menu was the more conventional mushroom double cheese and the Churchwarden’s Chilli Challenge .
Paul Roberts is organiser of the 2014 Bacon Buttie Festival. He said; “There’s something about a bacon sandwich that almost everybody understands. Endlessly tasty and satisfying, but at the same time great fun to prepare and eat.”
He continued; “If it’s just a plain bacon sandwich you want, absolutely no problem. If you prefer something a little more adventurous, then we have butties for every palate and flavour influences from the world over.”
There was also the usual fun and games including quoits, a book stall, cake stall and the human fruit machine will be back.
