A pirate themed day was hosted by Horsefair shopping centre yesterday with such guests as Jack Sparrow impersonator, Darren Potter who judged the fancy dress competition as well as local shop employees dressing up themselves as pirates.

Kevin Smith, the Horsefair Shopping Centre manager, said: “What a perfect day, we’ve even got the weather; it’s a great day for the community.”

Mr Smith has been arranging these events for nine years now and the standards keep being set higher every time.

He had also arranged a treasure hunt throughout the day for children with help from Roger the security guard.

To make the kids more pirate like, Dan the balloon man was making swords for free and KJ Entertainments helped as well with face painting. KJ and Liz were the artists at work.

This all helped towards the kids chances of winning the fancy dress competition judged by Jack Sparrow at midday.

There was a boy and girls runner up and boy and girl winners. The runners up received a pirate goody bag and the winners received a pirate goody bag and a Horsefair shopping centre goody bag containing prizes from the stores.

The runners up were Carlos Fernandez and Tia Harley and the winners were Henry Hussick and Merlyn Welfare.

After the awards had been handed out everybody got in a massive group photo with Jack Sparrow.

There was also a Punch and Judy show from Uncle Mick entertainment,

Uncle Mick has been performing for more than 30 years and 20 of them along the Hunstanton Coast. He does from magic to puppets.

The children certainly enjoyed his show with a great number of children in the audience.

The Wisbech Baptist Church, located on Hill Street, helped out throughout the day making boats and having a colouring competition.

Bob Jackson and his team of 15 have been helping in these events for the past two to three years.

He said: “The event works both ways - we (the church) help the community and we get to meet new people.”

Donald Gray helped the event by letting people use his merry go round and gave people the chance to win prizes on the hook a duck stall, while free oranges were handed out from the local kiosk.
