Hurricane Bertha took its toll when heavy wind and rain caused a flash flood inside Ely Cathedral.

The freak weather sent shoppers and tourists dashing for cover inside the cathedral building and the city’s shops.

As rain sliced the streets outside a mini flood developed inside the cathedral around lunchtime on Friday.

Cambridgeshire was one of the regions in the UK hit by extreme weather that left people reeling.

In the Fens homeowners and businesses wait for insurance company news on the level of cover for their flood-hit properties after sewage-soaked water caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.
