PARTY on the Hill was a “fantastic day for the whole of Ely” according to organisers.
Rupert Russell, one of the team behind the event, which saw the likes of Matt Cardle, Blue and Atomic Kitten take to the stage in Cherry Hill Park, said he had received lots of positive feedback for revellers and businesses.
The concert, a 5,000 ticket sell-out, was held from 2-11pm on Saturday and also featured performances from DJ Ironik, Snap! the pop group OBF, made up of three members of 80s group Bucks Fizz, and 90s pop group D:Ream.
A host of local acts, including Coyote, Josh Curnow and Deadhorse all performed.
Mr Russell said: “I am over the moon, it has been months of hard work in the making but it turned out to be a fantastic day for the whole of Ely.
“People have been telling us how much they enjoyed themselves and from what I hear, the takeaways and taxi firms in Ely had a very good day too, so we’re delighted. We wanted from the start for this to be something for the community and it has been.”
A collection and auction was held on the day for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and more than £2,000 is expected to have been raised.
Mr Russell said meetings would now take place with East Cambridgeshire District Council and, if the authority was happy with the event, plans could potentially begin for next year’s instalment.
