A group of Fenland school children ditched their textbooks and squeezed into an inflatable dome to learn about the wonders of the solar system on Tuesday.

Pupils at Thomas Eaton School in Wimblington installed themselves in a mobile planetarium in the sports hall, where images of the sun, earth, moon and stars were projected onto the wall.

An instructor from StarLincs, who supplied the planetarium, was on hand to explain to the pupils what they were seeing.

Co-chair of Thomas Eaton’s Parent and Teacher Association, Anne Appleby, said: “We wanted to bring something a little bit different to the school.

“Each class spent an hour in the planetarium where they learnt about the planets and stars. There was a really good instructor who talked them through it.

“It is the first time we’ve done something like this but we will definitely be doing it again because the children and teachers were very enthusiastic. Everyone had an absolutely fantastic time.”
