THERE were dozens of entries for this year’s annual Mepal Produce and Craft Show.
Held in the village hall on Saturday, the show saw the best vegetables, fruits and crafts that the residents of the village had to offer, including some monster onions and dozens of pots of jams and preserves.
The prolonged period of wet weather over the summer, the wettest for 100 years according to the Met Office, meant that some categories of vegetables suffered but entries of plants and home-made goods, such as cakes, were up.
The first Mepal Show took place in 1973 and was the idea of John Bidder, rector of Mepal at that time. All villagers are invited to enter and cups are awarded for the best items in the different classes.
