SEVEN months after its re-opening and two years after they bought it, James and Rosemary Farrelly have put the Rose and Crown, Wisbech, on the market for £900,000.

Property agent Ashley Clark of Colliers International said: “It was always my clients’ intentions to sell however a change in their personal circumstances requires this much sooner than planned.

“The opportunities for new owners are countless. They can build on the existing model of a refurbished hotel with mixed income streams enjoying a growing turnover.”

The couple’s transformation of the Grade 11-listed building has been spectacular and the 28 bedroom hotel has received glowing praise from the key Tripadvisor website.

It has picked up a staggering 33 ‘excellent’ commendations from recent visitors, with comments ranging from ‘a welcoming winter haven’ to ‘a little slice of heaven in Wisbech.’

The upbeat comments are a far cry from the gloom and doom associated with the hotel under Jonathan Davies and his partner Jacquie Noot who left when the hotel was taken over by receivers. They had run the hotel for four years but even a feature on Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector couldn’t save it.

Previously Mr Farrelly had been in the pub and restaurant business in London and described his purchase of the Rose and Crown as a “nice project.”
