A BID to encourage first timers to help run a Fenland school was launched this week.

Principal Jason Wing of Neale Wade Community College, March, is spearheading the campaigning to find eight new governors.

They are needed to form part of the management of the school from April when it becomes a full blown academy.

Out goes the old style team of governors and under the control of Cambridgeshire County Council.

In comes a new team appointed by the school’s academy sponsors, the Active Learning Trust.

Mr Wing said: “We are looking for members of the local community who would like to be a part of the new academy that will replace the current college in April.

“I see this as a chance to be a part of a developing educational establishment that aims to provide an excellent education for the young people of March and the surrounding villages.”

Application forms have been published on the college website and Mr Wing is confident of a good response “for these very rewarding roles”.

The new board will comprise Mr Wing, two elected parent members, two elected staff, members and eight members appointed by the Active Learning Trust.

The application form promises an induction and training package to help new members take up and fulfil their roles.

There is only one catch to becoming a board member- you have to summarise in 250 words why you want the job and what you would bring to the role.

The trust is headed up by former Linton Village College head Clive Bush who is also to sponsor a new 201 place primary school in East Chesterton.
