Archant

Local business man Norman Bedford operates the largest and most successful Sunday and bank holiday car boot and market in the whole of Fenland, Cambridgeshire PE15 0PE.

It is called Skylark at the rear of the well established Skylark garden centre off of the A141 between March and Chatteris bypass.

The site is massive and in wet weather we can accommodate 200 undercover car booters in our all-weather building. The site also benefits from hard surfaced roads all around the site.

Norman also runs the very large Saturday car boot sale/market at Oakington near Cambridge, junction 30 off of the A14 - CB24 3DQ, every Saturday for the past 17 years. It re-opens this year on Saturday the 4th March 2017. No restrictions on sellers, everybody is welcome.

Norman opened the first Sunday market in the whole of the Fens, Cambridgeshire in grass fields at Chain Bridge station road March in 1985. Two years later, in 1987, he moved the market from Chain Bridge March to the former Kingsbury furniture buildings indoors at station road, Whittlesey. The original Sunday market at Wisbech, Norman opened from day one in 1987 at one time it was the largest indoor Sunday market in Europe - 86,000 square feet.

Many years later Norman had a break from both of those markets in Fenland but still ran the car boot sale on the East of England Showground, Peterborough for many years.

Norman then moved further afield and took over as operator at Brooklands Sunday market in Weybridge, Surrey and also ran a Wednesday market in Addlestone, Surrey, Thruxton racecourse, Norfolk showground and Peterborough United football club. Both of the original Whittlesey and Wisbech Sunday markets are now closed. The Wisbech one closed for good in December 2016.

Norman is very happy to be the operator of Skylark Sunday car boot and bank-holiday Monday car boot. With his 36 years experience he will make them even bigger and better than they already are.

Norman says over the three years he has been operating Skylark boot sale he sees both buyers and sellers from both of the original Wisbech and Whittlesey Sunday markets there. All sellers and buyers are welcome with the exception no plant sellers at Skylark car boot sales.

Norman would like to thank his wife Joy and twins Nigel and Hayley for their help and support throughout the years on the car boot sales and markets.
