IPCC investigate how Cambs Police handled calls from man later found dead in Fenland home

POLICE officers are under investigation for the way they handled calls from a 74-year-old man who was later found dead at his Fenland home.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating Cambridgeshire Police’s call-handling following the death of James Marriott.

Mr Marriott was found dead at his home in Horsegate Lane, Whittlesey, at about 6pm on February 9. A post mortem concluded that he died of a heart attack.

Earlier that day, between 12.09 and 12.29pm, Mr Marriott had made three calls to Cambridgeshire Police’s service centre.

Sarah Green, IPCC Commissioner, said: “Our investigation is examining the decision-making and actions taken by police staff who took the calls from James Marriott on February 9.

“We are investigating the rationale for these and whether they were sufficient and appropriate in the circumstances.

“IPCC investigators have contacted Mr Marriott’s family to explain our role and outline our investigation to them.”
