A simple act of remembrance for those who died during World War one will take place when members of the Royal British Legion stand at the March war memorial as part of a national lights out event.

The national chairman of the Royal British Legion has a vision for candles to be lit at every war memorial, community centre and home all over Great Britain so that more than one million candles will be alight to commemorate all the service men and women who lost their lives.

The March Branch of the Royal British Legion are supporting Lights Out, an initiative encouraging everyone in the UK to turn off their lights between 10pm and 11pm on Monday August 4– leaving only a single light or candle for this symbolic act of reflection and hope.

Gordon Glenton from the March Royal British Legion will be standing at the town’s war memorial with a storm lantern from 10pm and will then march to St Peter’s Church for a short service at 11pm.

Everyone is welcome to join in at this commemoration.
