A man suffered serious injuries after a crash between a lorry and a car near Alconbury Airfield.

One fire crew from Sawtry and one from Huntingdon were called to the incident on the B1043 at 7.53pm yesterday (Thursday). They used cutting equipment to free a man in his 30s, before he was taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He had multiple injuries, including to his legs and chest.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, who attended alongside a Magpas land crew, said: “His injuries were potentially life-threatening but not thought to be immediately life-threatening.”

A Magpas Helimedix spokesman said: “At 8pm last night Magpas Helimedix (Dr Nick Foster and Paramedic Jo Lambert) arrived in Alconbury via the Magpas Rapid Response – after a lorry and a car were involved in an RTC.

“When the Helimedix team arrived there was one patient trapped in the car (male in his 40s). The Helimedix team assessed the patient and worked alongside the Fire and Ambulance Service to free him from the vehicle.

“The Helimedix team administered pain relief and then they took the patient by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

“On arrival the patient was in a stable condition.”
