The helicopter and crew touched down in front of the library to deal with the elderly lady who had collapsed on the market place.

Magpas Helimedix team arrived near the scene at about 11.45am and landed on the mound between the library and the Acre.

Pilot Richard Eastwood said it was one of the more unusual locations where they have taken the helicopter.

He said: “It is rare to be able to get right into the centre of a town and to have such an easy landing.

“There are trees, wires and masts, but that’s what we are trained for - to land safely - which is what we achieved in this spot.”

The lady in her 80s suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed in front of the Royal Exchange Tea Parlour at about 11.30am.

A member of public gave her CPR then a member of the ambulance crew resuscitated her.

Magpas anaesthetised her, providing critical A and E care.

The woman was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital by the air ambulance.

On arrival she was in a serious but stable condition.
