IT has 650 outlets throughout the UK - and that will grow to 651 if Britain’s largest pizza delivery company gets the go-ahead to open in March.

Fast growing Domino’s Pizza wants to take over the recently vacated Walkers Bookshop and Thorntons chocolate concession in Broad Street.

The pizza company has written to Fenland planners enclosing copies of the “Domino Concept” which explains what it’s about and how it would do business.

Domino’s will need change of use from retail to food outlet but in its presentation to the council explains that there have been “various changes in shopping habits”.

Internet usage, for example, had led to people buying fewer books through shops and therefore forced Walkers to close.

Financial experts predict a bright future for Domino’s which, according to one financial commentator this week, “has seen the silver lining, as cost-conscious customers eschewed eating out”.
