POLICE officer Mark Cross has presented his latest cheque to the hospital ward that treated him for breast cancer.

Mark Cross, from March, presented a cheque for £5,625 to the oncology department at Peterborough City Hospital, where he was previously a patient.

He has now raised about £15,000 for the ward in the last three years by holding an annual charity darts tournament at the GER Sports Club in March.

The £5,625 was the total raised at this year’s event, which included an auction of sporting memorabilia.

Mr Cross, a Metropolitan Police officer, was one of only 300 men to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. After two operations and months of chemotherapy, the father-of-two entered remission.

He said: “It is amazing how many people’s lives are touched by cancer and the event and the donation is my way of saying thank you.”

Dr Karen McAdam, consultant oncologist at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The department is so grateful for Mark’s fund-raising.

“The money raised by Mark has helped fund on-going clinical trials and purchased an ultrasound machine for the chemotherapy department.

“His fundraising and generosity is making a valuable contribution towards the care of our patients.”
