Greener energy was on the agenda when MP Steve Barclay visited one of Fenland’s main employers on Friday.

The North East Cambs MP was given a tour of the Nestlé Purina factory in Wisbech, which employs 643 workers, to discuss the potential to use greener energy and the possibility of using solar panels to cut energy bills.

During the visit he met factory manager Martin Ruepp and chatted to shop-floor workers.

He also enjoyed a question and answer session before the tour which included an explanation of both the canning and foil production processes.

Mr Barclay said: “It was a very interesting visit. Nestlé Purina is one of the area’s main employers and I was impressed to see how much they have invested (more than £100million in the past few years) and the rapid growth they have enjoyed over the recent year.

“I am working very actively with local businesses to support them to grow so they can offer more jobs including apprenticeships and I’m delighted that Nestlé will be offering apprenticeships.”
