A Wisbech woman says she is still fuming over the damage caused by the “low life scum” who stole her daughter’s scooter

The mum, from the Trafford Road area, says her daughter is grateful the scooter was returned but angry at the damage.

“Unfortunately the low life scum broke the ignition and ripped off the number plate. I guess my daughter has worked this week for nothing by the time she has paid for the repairs.”

She added: “The moped was recovered by police; thieving little scum was riding it in Magazine Lane. Thanks for everyone’s help.”

A spokesman for Cambs police said the scooter was reported stolen at 6am on Wednesday.

“It was seen by residents later the same morning, who reported it was being ridden by a male who had no crash helmet.

“Police officers went to the area and saw the scooter being ridden in Magazine Lane”

The spokesman said: “On seeing the marked police vehicle the rider dismounted, dumping the scooter and running off.

“PC Arnold and PC Banks gave chase on foot. They were they were then joined by PC Smart and PC Bielawski in the search of gardens and open spaces.”

“Officers with like to thank the members of the public who called in and reported the incident which helped solve the crime

Police said their efforts resulted in the rider “being detained at an address nearby”.
