A FENLAND undertaker has applied for planning permission to more than double the size of his premises, and improve facilities “in line with current trends.”

peter Barnes has been an independent undertaker at Murrow for more than 30 year, and he wants to create a new coffin store, office and reception space at the enlarged property.

According to a report accompanying Mr Barnes’ planning application to Fenland District Council, facilities at the 1986 Chapel of Rest at West View, Murrow Bank, need upgrading. A new preparation area will be created, and rearranging the existing internal area will provide rearranged chapels and a reception area.

The proposed single storey side extension built of brickwork under a tiled roof would increase the current business area by 120 per cent.

Access to the site would remain the same, says the report, and the gravel driveway will be widened to give access to parking and the service area to the rear.

If we are to encourage cyclists to use the roads, we need to make the roads safer and more welcoming. Much of this can be achieved by reducing the speed of traffic. Where there are 20mph limits in place, there is no excuse for cyclists to use pavements.
