SHOPPERS visiting Ely this morning were fortunate not to be injured after a 60kg chunk of concrete fell from a shop.
At 11.45am a crew from Ely was called to reports of concrete falling in High Street, at the premises formerly occupied by Starbucks.
Crews assisted the police by isolating the electrical supply and removing loose debris from a wall.
Jon Wade, watch cmmander, said: “A large lump of decorative masonry fell from the front of a now empty shop in High Street, luckily missing members of the public.
“The complete piece weighs in excess of 60kg and could have seriously harmed anyone who happened to be walking beneath it. Luckily nobody was hurt, despite the pavement being extremely busy with shoppers.
The police cordoned off the area, and we removed the remaining loose pieces of debris before isolating electrical wires.”
Crews returned to their stations by 12.10pm.
