Eight students who helped build a nursery school, village hall and footbridge in Borneo last summer have been recognised for their efforts.

Laura Burton from Camps International visited Neale-Wade Academy, March, to present a certificate to the students and group leader who participated in the expedition.

Rebecca Surrey, Evie Cox, Nathaniel Simpson-Burton, Ollie Bullard, Robyn Fisher, Rosie Burr, Joe Clark, Charlotte Fletcher and group leader Jayson Stevens held a car wash, quiz evening, race night, sponsored cycle rides and car boot sales to fund the expedition.

Once they made it to Borneo, they laid the foundations and built the walls for a new nursery school in Tinagol, helped build a village community hall in Bongkud and re-built a footbridge to allow people to get into the centre of the village.

The group received a special thank you from the village chief on their departure.

As well as helping out with community projects, they did a week-long trek through the rain forests carrying all their kit.

Principal Jason Wing said: “This was a fantastic experience for our students, one that we would like to repeat again soon.”
