POLICE confirmed tonight that a baby who was travelling in a vehicle involved in a road accident near Downham Market this morning has died. A woman passenger also died.
The accident happened at 7.30am on the A134 at Crimplesham.
The incident involved a single vehicle, gold 318 BMW, which was in collision with a tree. Ambulance and fire service were also called to the scene to provide assistance. The road re-opened at about 11am.
There were three occupants in the car. The young boy, aged about 14 months old, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth hospital for treatment but sadly died earlier this afternoon.
The male driver, who is thought to be in his late 20s, was flown by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s hospital for treatment to serious injuries where he remains.
The female passenger, believed to be in her early 20s, sadly died at the scene. Police believe them to be local to the East Anglia area are and they are thought to be Eastern European foreign nationals.
