The fate of a Wisbech snooker club that has “changed hands several times and has also changed its name” will be considered by a licensing panel on Monday.

Fenland Council licensing committee will review the Chapel Road premises now known as H20 which at various times has run “party nights” and “rave nights” says Cambs Police.

Evidence from police will also focus on a visit by officers as recently as February 28 when “both male and female toilets gave positive cocaine swipes”.

One aspect of the club’s licence under review is a bid by the owners to remove membership condition and extend licensing from 1.30am to 2am.

However police believe allowing drinks to be sold later and for background music to continue until later “does not allow for a cool down period to allow customers to disperse in an orderly phased manner”.

Police believe that with between 60 and 150 people all leaving at the same time this “will have an impact on the local community and more opportunities for anti social behaviour, fights, drunken behaviour”

The committee will also hear evidence that a “gold covered note book” taken from the premises contains no dates, times or identification even though it purported to be a guest signing in book.

“It contained 45 names,” says the police report. “It was obvious that a page, or more, had been torn from the front of this book.” It was also apparent, say police that some entries were written by the same person.

“The premises obviously don’t take its obligations under its current licence seriously,” says the report.

Police want the premises to continue to be run as it was and since “there is no other snooker club in Wisbech the police cannot see the need for the premises to move back towards a higher risk business.”

An incident log has been compiled by police and this, too, will be considered by the licensing panel.
