The thefts which took place within three days of each other - the first was on Saturday, March 29 and the second on Tuesday, April 1.

Sergeant Roy McMichael, of British Transport Police, said: “The two bikes were stolen from the cycle racks at the station. Both had been secured by their owners and had their locks broken prior to them being stolen.

“On both occasions a man wearing a black cap, black jacket and carrying a black bag entered the station. He approached the cycle rack, broke the bike lock then cycled off in the direction of the city centre.

“Unfortunately bicycles remain a popular target for thieves but there are a number of ways people can help lessen their chances of becoming a victim of crime, like ensuring their property is adequately marked and secured.

“It’s also important to remember to register your bike and ensure a solid lock is used to secure it. If a bike is adequately marked, it makes it much easier to identify and therefore helps reduce the risk of theft.

“If you recognise the man pictured, we’d urge you to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference MSUB/B3 of 24/4/2014.

Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
