CAMBRIDGESHIRE’S pet rabbits are being offered free health checks by vets, shop owners and rescue centres across the region as part of Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW).
UK vets together with rabbit welfare and industry groups are hopping to the help of the region’s rabbits via a vaccination drive to combat bunny suffering and reduce rising cases of myxomatosis.
Matt Brash, TV vet and RAW supporter, said: “We know that many owners are very attentive to their rabbits, but don’t always fully understand their complex needs.
The RAW partnership and vet practices nationwide recognise this and are opening their doors, for free, this week, to offer a helping hand to owners who are a little unsure on aspects of their rabbits’ care.
“Britain’s rabbits suffer in a variety of ways, such as being kept alone or with a rabbit they don’t get along with, or being fed an inadequate diet.
“But for any rabbits, catching a disease like myxomatosis or RHD causes a great deal of suffering and this could all be prevented with one annual vaccination.
“Along with diet, behaviour, environment, companionship and health care, regular vaccinations for rabbits are a necessity for them to live long, happy and healthy lives.
