A Fen road which residents feared would become a crash spot if urgent action was not taken to fix it has been resurfaced.

Byall Fen Drove had crumbling and broken tarmac caused by lorries and tractors which use the Manea Extraction site.

Cambridgeshire County Council have patched up the road, which connected Manea and Chatteris, and made improvements to the road edges and verges.

In letters to MP Steve Barclay, residents described the state of the road as an “accident waiting to happen” and raised concerns over the combination of poor road conditions and limited visibility during the winter months.

Mr Barclay said: “I am very glad that the county council took prompt action to address the issues I raised on behalf of residents using this stretch of road.

“It was clearly in a very bad state of repair with cracked and crumbling tarmac and had become increasingly unsafe as a result of vehicles and machinery passing through.”
