Two men were arrested in Terrington following an alleged credit card scam.

The men, aged 18 and 19 and from the London area, were arrested on suspicion of committing fraud by false representation and have been released on police bail.

A victim was persuaded to give their PIN number over the phone and then told their credit cards would later be collected by a taxi.

Chief Superintendent Nick Davison, head of Norfolk’s County Policing Command, said: “We are advising residents to remain vigilant and to spread the word and raise awareness of these types of crimes, particularly amongst vulnerable and elderly people.

“Residents should remember their bank, credit card company or the police will never ask for your PIN, bank card or bank account details over the phone – never give these details out.

“The police will never call you and ask you to withdraw money from your account to give to a courier or taxi driver, regardless of how convincing they may seem.

“If you receive such a call leave the landline for at least five minutes to make an outside call. Fraudsters will keep the line open and have been known to play ring tones, hold music and a recorded message down the phone so the victim believes they are making a call to a legitimate number.

“Friends, family, carers and neighbours are asked to spread the word to ensure everyone is aware of this scam and what they should do.”

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of fraud should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  • What's all this 'answer a survey' rubbish before we can read the whole article? You're in danger of losing one of the few people who bother to access your website, if this carries on. I didn't come here to be solicited by a pathetic ad.
