A six year-old girl who was inspired by her nanny’s battle with cancer to climb Ben Nevis has raised more than £500 for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Accompanied by her father and grandfather, Sofia Ross, of Thorney, was not put off by the wind and rain as she completed the trek up and down the mountain in seven hours and 10 minutes.

Sofia said: “I have always wanted to climb it and Daddy said I could when I was six.”

Sofia decided she wanted to do something for Macmillan Cancer Support because of the support they gave to her nanny Jackie when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2012.

Jackie lost a lot of weight throughout her treatment and needed new clothes, which she was able to afford because of a Macmillan grant.

Macmillan also provide grants for things like extra bedding and fuel costs.

Jessica Levin, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are so grateful Sofia chose to raise money for Macmillan.

“Sofia’s motivation is truly inspirational and she has done an amazing job raising funds to help support people affected by cancer.”
