The RSCPA held a week of raising funds and awareness at the Block Fen animal centre near Wimblington which included a visit from North East Cambs MP Steve Barclay.

In Cambridgeshire 10 people were convicted of animal cruelty in 2013, including a couple from Murrow who ignored the deteriorating health of their dog causing unnecessary additional suffering.

Steve Barclay MP said he saw first-hand the important work the RSPCA staff and volunteers do in the community.

“I heard about steps the RSPCA is taking to deal with particular problems like pet-theft by microchipping dogs and cats.”

Kirstyn Gaunt, RSCPA Block Fen Animal Centre Manager, said: “This year is the RSPCA’s 190-year anniversary and so we are asking people to show their support by volunteering and fund-raising for us.”
