Parson Drove Diamond Jubilee memorial

A UNIQUE memorial to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has taken pride of place on the village green at Parson Drove, thanks to a group of students from the College of West Anglia.

The metal structure was commissioned by the Parson Drove Street Pride group, and it incorporates metal letters that spell out the words SIXTY YEARS around the top.

The memorial was built by the engineering students, painted by the motor vehicle and body shop students, and installed by the construction students.

Two local companies helped with the project. Cobra Engineering rolled the main frame and Mec-A-Tec cut out the letters. The ballast used for the plinth was donated by Gary Patrick Sand and Gravel.

Roger Reader, a member of the Street Pride group and college tutor said: “It was good to see students from different disciplines working together to produce such a piece, that people will enjoy looking at for years to come - I’m very proud of what the students did.”
