A SEARING attack on the senseless slaughter of the First World War – spiced with some of the catchiest songs of the era – is set to be staged at Wisbech Grammar School.

A cast of 45 pupils aged from 12 to 18 has been rehearsing after school every day and on Sundays for the past three months in preparation for three performances of ‘Oh what a lovely war’.

The play chronicles the horrors of the war told through songs and documents of the period.

School play director Alison Clayton, who is staging her 11th consecutive major production at the school, said: “I performed in a production of the play when I was 16 and I have never forgotten it.

“It moves the cast as well as the audience.”

Edwardian delicacies will be served during the interval.

Tickets for the show priced at £4 can be obtained by contacting Angela Sanders at the school or purchased on the door.

The three night run begins on December 5 with the performances starting at 7.30pm.
