A female teacher – who works for a company specialising in offering support for offenders – was also having an intimate relationship with an inmate at Whitemoor Prison in March, a court heard on Monday.

Samantha Drinkwater, 49, of Hawthorn Road, in Ramsey, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply at Cambridge Crown Court.

Drinkwater pleaded guilty to smuggling an SD card into the prison as well as possession of cannabis, and engaging in a sexual relationship with a prisoner at earlier hearings.

The offences are said to have happened between November 2015 and July 2017 at the Category A prison HMP Whitemoor, near March.

Judge Rupert Lowe said: “I’m going to adjourn this case until September. This is being adjourned for a preparation of a pre-sentence report.”

Judge Lowe also warned Drinkwater that a custodial sentence was “likely”.

Drinkwater was granted unconditional bail and will appear at crown court on September 10 for sentencing.
