Edward Slipper, from Terrington St Clement, has won the nationally renowned Arkwright Scholarship.

A TEENAGE student at Wisbech Grammar School has been awarded a nationally-renowned engineering scholarship to help him with his A-Levels.

Design and technology ace Edward Slipper, from Terrington St Clement, is one of just 300 students across the country to receive the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship.

The 16-year-old netted the bursary by passing a two-hour aptitude exam and impressing at an interview at Cambridge University’s engineering faculty.

He will be presented the award at a ceremony hosted by the Institute of Engineering and Technology later in the year.

Rob Frost, head of design and technology at Wisbech Grammar School, said: “We are exceptionally pleased with what Edward has achieved, because this is a nationally-recognised award. It is a good thing for him and a great thing for the department.

“We wish him well in his studies and his future career in technology and engineering.”

The Arkwright Scholarship is administered by a trust established to nurture future leaders in engineering and related areas of design.
