THE March Society welcomed a Cambridge historian who spoke about how March has evolved in the past 160 years at their monthly meeting.

Martin Edwards brought along his vast collection of old postcards and photographs of March and explained that, by analysing them, you could see how the town has developed since the middle of the 19th Century.

Mr Edwards researched approximate dates when the pictures were taken and then used the early editions of Kelly’s Directories, census information and old newspapers to identify the names of individuals and families as well as the ownership of many of the buildings on his photographs and postcards.

The next event of The March Society will be a talk called ‘Norwood Road Nature Reserve’ by Spencer Holland, March Wildlife Trust warden, on Wednesday April 3 at 7pm.

Tickets are £1.50 for members, £2.50 for non-members and include tea, coffee and biscuits.
