Police in March have been using their new Facebook page in the hope of winning plaudits for their clamp down on speeding.

“Tickets galore” said the headline on their latest posting which reports a special constable who issued speeding tickets in Wisbech Road, March, last week.

“Tickets were issued to three motorists who were caught doing 40, 44 and 47 mph in the 30 mph zone,” notes their report.

“In addition two tickets were issued to motorists for not wearing seat belts.

“However, the most unlucky motorist was prosecuted for an expired provisional licence, no tax, no MOT, no insurance and then the vehicle was seized. Five other people were stopped throughout the morning and given words of advice for their excess speed.”

Police say they are reacting to issues raised at the recent community forum and have tackled speeding, too, in Norwood Road.

“Officers have been carrying out speed checks on this road, one of the officers, PC Smart stopped 14 motorists this week in relation to the speed of their vehicles.

“The 11th motorist whom he stopped was travelling at 36mph. On speaking to the driver in relation to the speeding offence he also had reason to arrest the driver for a drug offence.”

Police say there are more special constables being trained in speed enforcement and this will “add to the ability of the local team to allow speed checks in your area”.

One response to the Facebook campaign, however, came from a woman who gave the name of a local man she claimed to have spotted on two occasions drink driving.

She was thanked for the information which “officers will progress and update accordingly”.
