Traffic lights at Goosetree Junction switched off while UK Power Networks trimmed trees in Fenland hamlet

TRAFFIC lights at the Goosetree Junction were switched off today while tree trimming work was carried out in a nearby Fenland hamlet.
Work was carried out at Ring’s End by UK Power Networks and for safety reasons the power supply to some homes and the traffic lights at the A141/A605 junction was shut off at 8am.
A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “UK Power Networks has today carried out vital tree trimming work in the Ring’s End area of March in Cambridgeshire.
“This work is essential to help us maintain reliable power supplies to our customers now and in the future.
“Electricity supplies to some customers were isolated at 8am to enable us to carry out the work safely. Unfortunately the work also affected a set of traffic lights at the junction of March Road and Wisbech Road.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience that has been caused to motorists and would like to reassure our customers that we completed the work as quickly as was safely possible and power supplies were restored by 2.20pm.”
The traffic lights were installed in a £500,000 safety scheme at the A141/A605 junction, on the outskirts of March, following a campaign by this newspaper.
Amanda Burbridge, of March, died aged 20 in a collision at the junction on Valentine’s Day in 2003. We launched the ‘What Price a Life’ campaign, with the support of Amanda’s father David, following her death to get a roundabout built at the junction.
Cambridgeshire County Council approved the scheme in 2005 but in 2008 it emerged that a roundabout would cost £2million to build. As a result, it was replaced with a traffic light scheme.
